iTunes go home! Airvideo here i come!

i’m one step closer to killing iTunes from my desktop alltogether, thanks to AirVideo.  This is a cheapo client for iPhones & iPads for streaming music. Nifty thing is, it comes with a free server you have to install on your media machine at home, which will then stream the clips to your device – regardless of input format – air video server will do the re-encoding on the fly. On one hand in apple compliant h.264 format and dynamically adjusted to the available bandwith.  Whatever input format i threw at mine, xvid, avi and whatnot obscure codecs you’ll find on your favourite torrent-site and regardless of resolution, airvideo-server handled it perfectly.

And now for the candy: there is a linux port of the server. it’s kind of hidden in the official forums, but once you got the hang of it, there is no turning back. running ever since nicely on my debian lenny box.

i’ll never ever again import any movie whatsoever trough iTunes.
