My brain is rotten. everytime the kernel on my dom0 gets updated, even its only minor, the domUs start going all crazy, with random dpkg errors, services that terminate at random, fscks going horribly wrong. but they do it with enough delta in between, so that i never suspect the kernel upgrade. So me dumbfuck spends the better part of an hour investigating the problem and of course finding no solution whatsoever.
solution: once and for ever
- tar gzip all modules inside of /lib/modules/kernelXXXX and sftp to domU
- unrar and copy.
- reboot
i’m one step closer to killing iTunes from my desktop alltogether, thanks to AirVideo. This is a cheapo client for iPhones & iPads for streaming music. Nifty thing is, it comes with a free server you have to install on your media machine at home, which will then stream the clips to your device – regardless of input format – air video server will do the re-encoding on the fly. On one hand in apple compliant h.264 format and dynamically adjusted to the available bandwith. Whatever input format i threw at mine, xvid, avi and whatnot obscure codecs you’ll find on your favourite torrent-site and regardless of resolution, airvideo-server handled it perfectly.
And now for the candy: there is a linux port of the server. it’s kind of hidden in the official forums, but once you got the hang of it, there is no turning back. running ever since nicely on my debian lenny box.
i’ll never ever again import any movie whatsoever trough iTunes.
Well, almost everything: Tasker allows you to change most of the settings, start applications and such either based on time, location (cell ID or gps) or on events, such as sms, emails calls etc. sounds simple – works great!
e.g: the first thing i see in the morning is the daily new dilbert strip – hot off the press and automagically downloaded and opened on my screen. beats seeing my wife sleeping by ages!
tasker is still beta – and thus free. get it in the forums tasker.dinglisch.net
schön wirds, wenn wir wirklich ohne die elenden cablecom settop-boxen glotzen können, dachten wir uns gestern, doch da haben wir uns wohl zu früh gefreut…
